Toxic fescue is a major dynamic on the Yazel ranch. Though he told tour members that he didn’t want to get rid of it, Mark Yazel said he wanted to keep it below a third of the forage that his cattle consume. The rest of it is bluestem and bermudagrass. He added that the only real concern with the fescue is with the heat, but that can be dealt with by making sure there’s shade and ponds for the cattle.
